| II - YOUTH AND LOVE - I
ONCE only by the garden gate Our lips we joined and parted. I must fulfil an empty fate And travel the uncharted.
Hail and farewell! I must arise, Leave here the fatted cattle, And paint on foreign lands and skies My Odyssey of battle.
The untented Kosmos my abode, I pass, a wilful stranger: My mistress still the open road And the bright eyes of danger.
Come ill or well, the cross, the crown, The rainbow or the thunder, I fling my soul and body down For God to plough them under.
~Songs of Travel, Robert Louis Stevenson

| Note to self: Showing up to a Masquerade Ball in uniform will lead people to think that it's a rental. | | |
| The more and more time I spend studying the Bible, the more questions arise in my mind, leading me to be able to state two clear and concise facts.
1)-There is a God.
2)-He is a being of infinite subtleties.

Who influences you? Psychologists, preachers and plain ol' people have a million answers. Some go crazy spending their entire lives trying to figure out who influences them and how to stop them, others simply ride the wave of their ignorance and enjoy themselves. Myself, I only know that I know nothing. But when it comes to music, there's no question as to who's influenced me and my sister the most: my Dad.
In the spirit of Halloween, I drudged up an old rock & roll classic Pop introduced me to when I was 10. Every Sunday the car radio was dialed to 92.5 KZPS when we'd drive to church, unless Mom was with us, in which case it was sermons about sermons on our way to a sermon. It was months before my standard answer to his eternal question "Who's this playing?" was something other than The Beatles ( I was ten, I didn't know better.)
I realize now how just much of my musical tastes (and indeed, my life) have been influenced by him. Without his eclectic & ever-playing collection of jazz, classic rock, blues, roadhouse country, surf guitar and rhythm & blues, I would've probably ended up another one of those sad punk rock punks or emo pretty boys. So thanks Dad, and enjoy the music.

| And God shall make thy body pure, and give thee knowledge to endure This ghost-life's piercing phantom-pain, and bring thee out to Life again.
And God shall make thy soul a Glass where eighteen thousand æons pass, And thou shalt see the gleaming Worlds as men see dew upon the grass.
The Gates of Damascus, James Elroy Flecker (1884-1915)
